Q&A: Master Books World History Encyclopedia By Nancy I. Sanders

Nancy I. Sanders

Unlike Any Other World Encyclopedia

Nancy I. Sanders has outdone herself. What a comprehensive resource!

To tell you the truth, I wish I had this reference book when I was home educating. At that time, in the early 2000s, there was no complete classical curriculum, so I pieced together various resources I needed to complete our daily assignments.

Master Books World History Encyclopedia (Volume 1: Creation to the Roman Empire) not only includes everything a student would need through high school, but also weaves Biblical events, characters and theology into the timelines for a truly complete and accurate picture of history for use by home educators, Christian Schools and home library collections. I could see devotions based on these eras of history.

I can't imagine how much time and energy it took to compile the research for this book. I'm excited to see it in the hands of parents, teachers and students.

Well, enough of my thoughts. Let the Q&A begin!
Q. Tell us about your newest book, Master Books World History Encyclopedia: Creation to the Roman Empire, Volume 1.
A. There are student encyclopedias on Bible times and Bible history. There are student encyclopedias on world history. But this is probably the first ever student encyclopedia that includes both Bible history and world history in the same book—all told from a biblical worldview. Starting with the Creation account in the Bible, this encyclopedia is written with an apologetics style to help kids know they can trust what the Bible says about Creation, science, and history—and stand strong in their faith.

Q. What do you hope readers and educators will learn from this series?
A. As a Christian who writes, I want every book and article I write to lead kids, their parents, and their teachers to Christ. With this encyclopedia, I want to show history through God’s eyes because He has a plan for the entire history of the world. It’s an eternal plan that will take the evil Satan intended and work it into good. My goal is to encourage readers to trust the Bible and believe what it says. My hope and prayer is that this encyclopedia will equip readers to know God as Creator and Jesus as Savior so they can stand firm in their faith and share this faith with others.

Q. Have you written other books with this publisher?
A. Yes! I wrote Out of This World Devotions. It’s a spiral-bound 21-day devotion for kids that can also be used for family devotions. Its focus is on the great big universe God created and how we can get to know God, Jesus, and the Bible by looking up at the stars. You can see it on Amazon at this link: This World Devotions

Advice for Writers in their Silver Years

Q. You’re in your sixties. What advice do you have for writers in their silver years?

A. God has a plan for you! Pray and ask Him how you can volunteer at your local church to use your writing skills for His glory. He just might call you on a grand adventure that you never imagined before!

I “retired” from writing a few years ago. I let my agent go and stepped away from social media. My husband, a retired public school elementary teacher, and I volunteered at our church to be on the curriculum team of a new ministry that they were starting up for homeschooling families in our church. We had never homeschooled, but our grandchildren were being homeschooled. It was a deep dive into the world of homeschooling and a big learning curve for us as we familiarized ourselves with the educational materials and philosophies of Christian homeschooling families.

I began writing nonfiction curriculum for the homeschooling ministry at our church and became familiar with Master Books, an imprint of New Leaf Publishing. I loved this publisher and its commitment to writing Bible-based curriculum. After about a year and a half of writing as a volunteer at our church, an opportunity opened up to write this encyclopedia for Master Books. It is geared specifically for homeschooling families but every Christian home and classroom can benefit from it.

Five years ago, would I have thought I’d be writing for homeschoolers? No! Could I ever imagined I’d be writing an encyclopedia on Ancient History for students? Never! Yet here I am having completed 4 years of volunteer writing at my church and two years of writing Volumes 1 and 2 of the world history encyclopedia. (Volume 2 is in the design phase right now and will be out Winter 26/27. I’m currently writing Volume 3.)

Are you retired? Yet love to write? Volunteer to use your God-given talents. You just might be surprised at the path God opens before you.

Such good and encouraging advice. There are always opportunities to use our words when we give our gift of writing to God. It may not look the same in everyone, but He can use us all. Thank you, Nancy!
